Gradall Forklift Parts - Through the period when World War II caused a shortage of workers, the legendary Gradall excavator was born in the 1940s as the brainchild of two brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda. Partners in a Cleveland, Ohio construction company known as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda, the brothers faced a huge predicament when a lot of men left the labor force and signed up in the military, depleting available laborers for the delicate finishing work and grading on highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers decided to build a machine which will save their business by making the slope grading job less manual, easier and more efficient.
Their first design model was a device with two beams set on a rotating platform which was attached atop a second-hand truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams forward and backward that allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Before long enhancing the initial design, the brothers made a triangular boom so as to add more strength. Moreover, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom rotate 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was positioned at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the machinery to be equipped with either a blade or a bucket attachment.
1992 marked a momentous year for Gradall with their introduction of XL Series hydraulics, the most dramatic change in the company's excavators ever since their creation. These top-of-the-line hydraulics systems enabled Gradall excavators to provide high productivity and comparable power on a realistic level to traditional excavators. The XL Series ended the first Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These traditional systems efficiently handled finishing work and grading but had a difficult time competing for high productivity tasks.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a remarkable increase in their digging and lifting ability. These versions were manufactured together with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system which showed great improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was likewise developed with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators use an operator to choose a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power meant for the job at hand. This makes the operator's whole job easier and even saves fuel at the same time.
When their XL Series hydraulics came onto the market, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of equipment meant to deal with excavation, demolition, pavement removal as well as several industrial jobs. Marketability was further enhanced with their telescoping boom because of its exclusive ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
